Presentation by Professor Jeremy Levine

This presentation, led by Professor Jeremy Levine, adjunct professor at NYU, will explore the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act of 1970, also known as RICO, and how it impacted legal investigations into racketeering by ongoing criminal organizations. Topics discussed will include how organized crime was able to operate in the United States prior to RICO, how an enterprise is defined and what is needed to build a legal case, its impact on the mafia beginning in the 1980s, its application beyond cosa nostra and states such as New York and New Jersey adopting their own versions of the law, and why it is still relevant today and what we should be paying attention to from a legal perspective.
